About Our Band Program
Welcome to Tennyson Middle School Bands in Waco, Texas
It is the mission of the Tennyson Middle School band program to gain a better understanding and appreciation of music and share that knowledge and love with others. Through study, practice, individual accountability, and team cooperation, a high level of performance can be achieved. We believe in establishing a tradition of excellence through our performances, as well as our demeanor, attitude, and spirit.
The Tennyson Middle School band program strives to learn all aspects of music including performance, music history, theory, ear training, and music appreciation, in order to be, whole musicians. And lastly, it is our mission to reach out to the community by sharing our talents with the student body, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and family.
About Our Program
The Tennyson Middle School Band program consists of Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Honors Band, Jazz Band and other various performing ensembles.
Students who have not previously played in band or who have extremely limited playing experience are placed in a beginning band class after meeting with one of the directors to determine which instrument class they will be assigned (students are placed in instrument-specific classes, i.e. “Clarinet class.”).
Students who have finished at least one year of band are placed in Concert, Symphonic, or Honors Band based on skill level, behavior, and academic scores. Jazz Band is a specialty ensemble, and students in this ensemble must be enrolled in either Symphonic or Honors Band.
The Tennyson Middle School Band program is led by Director of Bands Kimberly J. Tucker along with assistant directors Amber Meeks and Jordan Meza.
